Creative Reuse Springs! Into Action, Part 3

Finally, it was time for Fiesta Atlanta on May 6. What a huge festival, spread out across Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park as far as the eye could see! This time, no pop-up shop, we simply brought a children’s craft activity: decorating burros. We called them pet burros, which we cut out of cardboard in advance, so the kids used crayons, markers, stickers, decorative paper and crepe paper streamers to decorate them. Did I say stickers? Oodles of stickers.

Once again the kids’ creativity was amazing, as was the variety among the decorated burros. Several kids turned their pet burros into Mother’s Day cards. I watched one boy write “Mom” on his burro. Then he added in front of it “Love” so it read, “Love Mom.” Then he added “and Dad.” One child was overheard giving his pet burro a name. Another boy summed up the day: “This rocks!”

Special thanks to volunteers Roseanne and Majorca for helping us out at Fiesta Atlanta!
