November was going to be a quiet month for WonderRoot Creative Reuse, we thought, Ha! Let’s see if you can keep up with us. First, I need to remind you about the Atlanta Day of the Dead celebration at Atlantic Station on Sunday from noon to 5 p.m., free admission. There will be a lot to see and do there, of course! From the festival web site:
“Atlanta Day of the Dead features traditional altars created by
members of the community, live music and cultural performances,
vendor booths offering free product samples, arts and crafts,
and authentic Latino foods.”
Wait! Arts and crafts, that would be us! WonderRoot Creative Reuse will be there featuring a make-and-take craft activity where you can make a mini alter to honor the memory of your loved ones who have died. We have been gathering materials for this project and even made some special miniature candles for the event:
Then, on Saturday, Nov. 12, we will be hosting “Mod Art with Glue & Glitter,” a craft workshop at WonderRoot from 2-4 p.m. Sally will probably write more about this next week, so just let me say that this is shaping up to be our best-attended workshop yet. Our teacher will be Becky Striepe, creator of Glue & Glitter (glueandglitter.com) and recently voted Best Indie Crafter by Creative Loafing. We are all super excited about this one.
What you need to know about our workshops is that the cost is $10, which is the cost for a one-month WonderRoot membership. So, you’re paying for the membership and getting the workshop for free, or you could look at it the other way around, I guess. When you sign up at http://www.wonderroot.org/membership.htm, be SURE to mention Creative Reuse. You will receive some free take-home supplies for doing that. With that membership, you’ll have access to WonderRoot’s Arts Center Open Access Studio Program, access to other WonderRoot workshops, discounts at Park Grounds Coffee, Sam Flax Art and Supply, Binders Art and Supply and more. For an even better deal, sign up for a 1-year WonderRoot membership for $60.
And there’s more this month … it just keeps getting better … we’ll be at the Indie Craft Experience Holiday Shopping Spectacular, aka ICE, on November 19 & 20. If you’ve been to ICE in prior years, well, then you know. If not, read about it in Atlanta INtown, where they say ICE is “the go-to place for holiday gifts and more” and describe the event as a “showcase of some of the most unique and inspiring displays of jewelry, illustrations, clothing and much more.” Inspiring, yes — times ten!
Pop-up Shop Alert: At ICE, WonderRoot Creative Reuse will have a pop-up shop as well as a gift-wrapping station. We are honored to be a part of this event. Location: Ambient Plus Studio, 585 Wells St. SW, Atlanta. Dates: Nov. 19-20. Hours: 11-6. Admission: $5 (children 12 & under FREE)
