Fiber Arts! If this phrase intrigues you, if you are suddenly curious, then hop over to Saturday’s Open House at the new Southeast Fiber Arts Alliance (SEFAA) Center. The Open House is Saturday from 12-3 pm, and the address is 1705 Commerce Dr. NW, Atlanta, GA 30318. I mapped it, and it looks like they’ve got a great location, right off I-75 near Northside Drive.
Less about real estate and more about fiber arts? That could mean so many things. I spent some time poking around the SEFAA web site, and funny thing is they never say exactly what is included in that term, fiber arts. At first, I thought I just wasn’t finding it, because I was expecting a list! Finally I decided they were purposely not laying it out there, because to tell us what “fiber arts” includes would be to limit the possibilities.
Of course, I’m thinking of knitting, crocheting, quilting, embroidery, sewing, weaving. And all combinations and permutations of these activities. I mean arts.
I love this SEFAA slogan: “Intertwining the fiber arts community.”
“SEFAA champions the fiber arts and fiber artists by celebrating, supporting, and perpetuating all fiber art forms and by fostering collaboration and co-operation in the fiber arts community. “
For more, I’ll just send you over to the SEFAA web site.
Chris Appleton, Executive Director of WonderRoot, introduced us (WonderRoot’s Creative reuse team) to SEFAA back in the spring when they had their Garage Sale. [Doesn’t he just know everybody!] We were the beneficiaries when the Garage Sale was over, and lots of exquisite yarn and beautiful fabric was donated to WonderRoot Creatvie Reuse that day.
So go check out the Open House at the new SEFAA Center, and watch their web site for upcoming classes, workshops and tours. Not only are they creative, but they appreciate and support reuse, too!
